About Me

I am a primary school teacher, workshop leader, trainer and project manager. I have a BA (Hons) degree in Music Composition playing flute and piano. I also hold a level 5 BTEC in Management Studies, a certificate in safeguarding – level 3 and an enhanced DBS (CRB) dated September 2013.

My career has involved working both strategically and operationally in schools, local authorities and charities. My workshops are designed to be fun, purposeful, practical and have a positive impact.

The learning process has always fascinated me, in particular the stages we move through when we learn something new. Understanding this process helps us to understand some of the barriers children face in their learning, enabling us to effectively support them along their learning journey. My workshops are practical and experiential so that participants can feel it for themselves and recognise the triggers and emotions associated with learning.

I have experience delivering holiday camp programmes in Europe and have worked as a playworker and childcare manager in holiday, breakfast and afterschool clubs, working with children aged 4 – 18yrs.

My games book – The Real Game Guide is now in its 4th edition and available on and

I was fortunate to get involved in the Extended Services government initiative when it was piloted in 2005. I ran a large programme of extra-curricular primary activities over a 2 year period in Reading, Berkshire, helping to raise aspirations and improve self-esteem of hundreds of primary school children, many from deprived backgrounds.

I worked for Wiltshire Council in the schools department for 6 years holding various school support roles, setting up projects and services for children and families. My business – PlayUp, is an accumulation of my experience and the skills I acquired along the way.
